About Andres
Andres is an arbitrator, mediator, and lawyer with a diverse background in employment and labour relations that includes acting as a neutral third party, as well as an advocate. This background provides him with a unique perspective for labour and employment disputes that assists in helping parties to achieve a mutual resolution as well as providing decisions that are both fair and reflective of the labour relations realities of what is in many cases an ongoing relationship.
Before starting his mediation and arbitration practice, Andres spent eight years at the British Columbia Labour Relations Board resolving and adjudicating disputes as a Vice Chair and then as the Associate Chair of the Mediation and Adjudication division. In this role, parties appreciated his ability to assist in narrowing issues, case manage complex matters effectively, and find creative ways to resolve their disputes. It was also critical to him that disputes were resolved in a timely manner and in a way which ensured parties felt confident they had been heard and understood, regardless of the result.
Prior to this, Andres started his legal career conducting mediations and adjudications for disputes arising under the Employer Standards Act, worked for a major public sector union, held the role of Senior Legal Counsel for the provincial entity that represents various public and private health care employers, and represented both employees and employers in employment law and human rights disputes. This varied background across an array of industries has helped make Andres attuned to the nuances of specific workplace relationships and perspectives.
Andres’ ultimate goal is to provide a timely and impartial resolution to labour relations disputes that draws on his experience and leaves the parties satisfied that their matter has received the consideration it deserves.
